The Millennium Temple Church was organized in the spring of 2014, under the direction of God and the leadership of Rev. Sidney E. Phillips , along with a small group of close friends and relatives. The Church held its first service with its core team and a host of other guests on Sunday , July 13, 2014, at the Double Oaks masonic Outreach Center.
Prior to our first Church service, a dedicated, willing and capable core team of volunteers spent tireless hours, meeting, planning and executing so that our first service would be pleasing to God and man. We are forever in debt to that small group of original members.
Since that time the church has experienced exceptional growth in its membership and ministries. The church held its inaugural dedication worship and celebration service on September 7, 2014. Dr. Robert E. Lee McGowans, Pastor of Greater Galilee Baptist Church, served as the Dedication service preacher. Pastor Cornelius Atkinson of Wilson Heights, First Church of God, led the church in a dedication litany and prayer. Clergy representing several other churches and associations also were in attendance. In January 2015 the church solicited and gained acceptance into the United Missionary Baptist Association of North Carolina.
In preparation for the launch of the church Minister Sonny Turner established the MTBC praise team in April 2014 and as the church grew, so did interest in the worship ministry and a mass choir was also established. The generous contributions and support of the members allowed the Church to secure room (C-12) at the Masonic Outreach Center for use as a church office, and a place to facilitate Bible study and other ministerial efforts, in October 2014.
Minister Dennis Frazier and Sister Gina Black organized and led Millennium's first efforts in outreach as the church fed over five hundred homeless in the community during Thanksgiving and Christmas of 2014. Since that time, Talathia Davis, our current chairperson, along with others, have continued to aid in our outreach efforts. Sister Davis has done a phenomenal job connecting Millennium with our community.
Sisters Joyce Hart and Janeen Graves initiated a partnership with Kids First NC Inc. that allowed the church to provide toys, food, and clothing items for more than fifty families in the community. The Women’s ministry under the leadership of Lady Sara Phillips hosted the Millennium's first prayer breakfast and women’s conference on January 10 2015 with County Commissioner Ella Scarborough as keynote speaker.
In addition, we are continuing our efforts to grow our Youth Ministry to the level that will aid them and ensure that they are disciples of Christ. Our Men’s Ministry has had several leaders and is currently under the direction of our Pastor. Our couples Ministry is the pride & joy of O’brien and Debbie Walls and our Senior’s Ministry is run by Gina Black. Our newly formed Singles Ministry is led by Michelle Huntley.
The Chappell Memorial Baptist church donated a fifteen passenger van to the church to aid the church in its efforts to reach the lost and equip the saints. Several other churches in the Charlotte area partnered with Millennium temple in prayer for successful ministry and assistance with facilitating baptisms, funerals and other programs. (Greater Galilee Baptist, Middle Street AME Zion, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Friendship Primitive Baptist)
As we approach the anniversary of our Inaugural dedication service, our membership stands at more than 178 members with more than a dozen ministries established to serve our congregation and community. Millennium Temple has partnered with several agencies and ministries in the charlotte area; Gracious Hands Transitional Housing for homeless women & children, A Brighter Day Ministries for youth in the Hoskins Ave area, and the Crime Victims Coalition of the greater Charlotte metro area. The church is also very active in the community providing support in volunteer hours for a number of charitable agencies and efforts: March of Dimes, Juvenile Diabetes foundation; the Charlotte Men’s shelter, Kids First of NC and the Ronald McDonald House.
The Lord has been kind to us and has shown us great favor since 2014. I’m delighted that ours is a church that allows the love of God to flow freely among and through its members. We worship intentionally and always have an expectation of God to Minister to us through though His Spirit and presentation of the Word. This is only the beginning and we know that “Greater things are yet to come and greater things are still to be done in this city”.
Yours in His Service
Pastor Sidney E. Phillips
